Sight words are words that should be memorized to help a child learn to read and write. Learning sight words allows a child to recognize these words at a glance — on sight — without needing to break the words down into their individual letters and is the way strong readers recognize most words. |
ReadingSmall stories come home weekly with homework packets. We also include a reading log to track your daily reading practice. We encourage you to read at least 20 minutes for a minimum of 5 nights each week. All time spent with homework reading practice counts towards your 20 minutes of reading.

CVC Words CVC words are the basic, three-letter words. The C stands for “consonant” and the V stands for “vowel;” therefore, CVC words begin with a consonant, have a single letter vowel sound, and end with a consonant. These words all use the “short” vowel sound and are easy for students to sound out once they know all their letter sounds.
